temporary fireplace makeover

Our fireplace is in serious need of a full makeover but we just don’t have the time until after the holidays :(. We are hosting two large parties, we have friends & family coming to visit on multiple occasions but I just can’t look at that beige, marble fireplace anymore! Especially since it is Christmas, and during Christmas the fireplace can be the focal point in the room with stockings and holiday decor!

I am a bit of an instant gratification person, as well. We’ve really been looking into a more in-depth DIY project by using AirStone to cover the marble, however after doing a little research, it would have been a little bit more time consuming. So, I happened to be at Target and saw this peel and stick wallpaper! I did a little reading of the reviews on my phone while at the store, and ended up just snagging one roll of the stuff — for $34.99! here is the target link – Devine Color Textured Brick Peel & Stick Wallpaper

Here is our mantle before applying the peel and stick wallpaper. You can see that we tried a little chalk paint option, as well.

So after the kids went to bed, applying this wallpaper was our Friday night activity. Phew – once we cracked open the packaging we knew we had our work cut out for us. Lining up the faux bricks was definitely a struggle. From afar I love the look, but up close you can see many of our mistakes and some air bubbles, too.

I will say the look of the faux brick is great and it is even a little textured.  I do feel like the white is a little off compared to my mantle and shiplap <white> color. But for the price, I am really loving how it turned out!

In my opinion, this temporary fix to cover our marbled fireplace was a success. After the holidays, we are going to reevaluate our options for a permanent DIY project! I will keep you posted with any updates!
